Anyone knows the detail of this cover? Please comment. Is it a rare cover? What is its estimated value?

You have a 1905 Letter from a Frenchman serving in the Army.

I think it's from French occupation of Tien Tsin, in China, not in Indo China. May be related to the Boxers War. Do you remember the old movie "A hundred days in Beijing"?

It also has a French seapost cancel over the army straightline handstamp.

It's got some eye appeal - I wouldn't be surprised if that cover would go for a little bit of money.

The main thing you need to know about the Boxer War is that it had finished 4 years before your cover!

This is the Russo-Japanese War 1904/5 for control of Manchuria. France was worried that if either side was successful they might go on to seize more of China and the neighbouring area, where they had considerable property and interests. So they would have put a high military presence into Tien Tsin.

Well, I actually made a mistake. The movie title is "55 days at Peking" with Ava Gradner, Charlot Heston and David Niven. It's from late fifties or early sixties. You can watch it at "You tube".

Very cool Cursus that looks like an interesting film. I'll have to watch it tonight.

Here is a link to the movie so you can see what was going on at the time your cover was mailed.

You asked about its value and mentioned you paid $60 for it. In my opinion that seems to be pretty high, but since you felt it was worth $60 then it must be worth that much. If you were to sell it I do not think you would easily get that much out of it from another collector though.

Good point! The current rate of exchange suggests that HK$60 is equal to about $7.74 in US dollars, which would seem to be much more in line with the true value of the piece.
