Hi you might want to try and add your own post so you can get some more help. For the most part a 2 to 3 thousand stamp collection is pretty small.
US stamps are pretty common between the years 1930 - 1950. Even most stamps that are in Mint Never Hinged condition do not have a value much more than the face value of the stamp. Some exceptions would be the Graf Zeppelin Air Mail Stamps.
I'm not that up to speed on world wide stamps though there are a lot of common stamps during those years too.
Here are my suggestions.
1.) Go to a library, borrow or buy and book on stamps so you can personally review what you have.
2.) Unless you find you have some high value stamps it isn't worth while to have such a small collection appraised.
3.) You could post some photos here so we can better direct you just in case the collection was put together for investment and not just a hobby collection.
Good Luck and welcome to the forum just remember that most stamps sells for a fraction of their catalog value. I'm looking forward to see some of the stamps.
Thanks for the help...I have only laid eyes on a fraction of the collection. I can tell you that at least 50% of them are loose in plastic sleeves in cigar boxes.
I am in a different city from the actual stamps so it will take a while to get some images...I did however actually see the Zeppelin stamp.
Also thanks for reminding me about sale value vs catalog value...I am a comic book collector and probably should have known that from that arena.
