I was watching an item, thought I would place a bid and got this message: "Sorry, the seller is not accepting bids or offers from you at this time."

What the @#%$! I never saw that before. I don't think I ever bought anything from this seller before. The fact that the seller is located in Germany may be the issue. Can anyone provide a reason for this message?

Hi stalzer,

I experience the same irritation as you when I am about to enter a bid on ebay UK for a US seller's item and I see "May not ship to the UK". At what point does this seller decide whether he will or will not ship to me?

This is exactally when I sell an item, I ship worldwide when using ebay, bidstart or any other auction site. My main problem is getting paid by overseas buyers. (some times) I once had a French buyer said he would not buy from me again since I put a unpaid item ding against him after only 3 days, He thought he could take 7 days. maybe on ebay.com on ebay.com it is three days the seller can put a unpaid claim aginst the buyer. usually I'll send a second invoice after 4 to 5 days.

dlawson281.....not trying to defend the buyer.....but 3 days is quick.
What if he was waiting for something else to end to combine shipping???
I do not know all the details for either party involved in the
transaction......but I guess as the seller, you make your own rules.
My 2c worth....

Technically, it is still 7 days because he has 4 days to pay after opening the case before you can close it and recoup your fees

I get pretty cranky when buyers take more than a couple days to pay but an unpaid item claim after three days? I can't say I blame the buyer for not wanting to do business with you.

So not worth an email to ask if they might ship to me in the UK then?

Terrence Collins.....I still ship overseas.....only thing now is EVERYTHING has to
go REGISTERED mail. NO EXCEPTIONS. I was averaging loss rate of 70-80% overseas.
Do you know how many chargebacks that is?
Now....either they pay the registered fee or dont bid.
Maybe the seller has a high rate of loss?
Offer to cover registered shipping costs.....this will protect the seller.

Hi kevin504,

Yes I appreciate the problems of overseas shipping and I will not sell to many European countries because of the "item never arrived" scams. I wasn't being critical of any one in particular, certainly not anyone on this site. I buy regularly from US sellers without problems either way (I have a list now of guys that sell good stuff and they know I pay promptly). My comment was really about the imprecise "May not ship to the UK". I have come across this in quite a few cases, notably sellers of Dennison's hinges, but some stamp sellers too. I really don't mind if a seller doesn't want to ship to the UK, I just wish they would say so. I have given up emailing to ask the "maybes" having only once got a "Yes I will".

I guess I've been on the lucky side and have not yet had an issue with overseas buyers (Knock on wood). I just had a buyer in Canada take 5 days to pay for an item so I just figured they were busy with life. They paid, I shipped and both left good feedback. Sometimes People have busy lives I guess.

stallzer.....actually pretty common.
Buyers overseas know that if a item does not arrive PayPal charges back without delivery confirmation....EVERYTIME!
They see when it arrives with no tracking (the 1st time) they bid on multiple items the next time. Almost trial and error. Believe me....happens often.

As a buyer I pay for any item as soon as the auction is over unless the seller needs to send an invoice. There is no advantage to me to wait any longer. Don't have the money? Then don't make the purchase. Petty stuff like this is why I don't do business with ebay any longer. There are other places to spend my money, and I don't figure they need my money that badly.

I'm like Buck49; being that I am usually watching the auction close. If I win I pay. The only time this isn't the case is if the auction happens to close whilst I'm sleeping. Then I pay next day.

After posting this, from my ebay store I sold items to Russia, Germany, Abu Dabai, Taiwan, & Hong Kong, I wonder if my previous post had anything to do with it?
