I received an EFO in the mail today! It was really unexpected and I think it's really neat. Scott #1618 I'm guessing? Anyone collect stuff like this that can tell me a little about it and if it has a suffix letter or not? Example: SC #1618 a,b,c, etc...

You are correct, it's a Scott #1618, issued 11/25/1975, with obvious misperf. A nice find, although it is not as valuable as one might think, as there are quite a few modern misperfs out there.

By the way, Scott #1618a is the precanceled variety; Scott #1618b is the imperforate error; Scott no longer carries any #1618c designation.

ebay is currently carrying about a half dozen listings for this misperf. This one is similar to the strip of 4 you have scanned at a BIN price of $14.88:

Perhaps there may be a EFO (Errors, Varieities & Oddities) catalogue out there for these with their own number but I am not sure.

I enjoy seeing the misperf varieties myself.

The word Error used in ebay listings (and others) may be there just to attract buyers.

The listing referenced may be priced a bit high but it is described and worded correctly enough. It could be only one stamp is wanted by collectors, or a lower price at this time, or the quantity of these is greater than the demand at this time.

haha.. I remember the old German gentleman with the sweet smelling cigars (how I didn't become a smoker I'll never know) my old mega-spoiled friend and I used to visit in downtown Long Beach back in 1978 or so had one of these in his shop, a strip of 3 or 4, used, and he didn't have a price on it. I asked how much it was, and he said 'Don't worry, enjoy the stamps you have'.. when my mega-spoiled friend asked, he was told it was $750!

Very nice strip ILS

That would make a good place in any variety collection.

EFOs are fascinating....from perf shifs (like the coil shown) to major color shifts that can change the design.
Most can be purchased for a few dollars and up....
