Here's how I find the stamps as I'm going through the boxes. They sometimes have no rhyme or reason.

Those two blue washington heads on the 4th row down I think are genuine "decacomania" essays. EssayK should see them. Also the ones you origi9nally posted are Confederate fantasy issues and are NOT worthless. jamesw might enjoy seeing them immensely! I know I would love them also! Nice stuff I think? Not going to retire or anything but certainly fun to look through!

Here is a wonderfully illustrated post on the subject that you may want to read and consider re-posting those Confederate fantasy/forgery stamps there. You will probably get a much better idea of exactly what you have there or at least better insight and better ID's. https://goscf.com/t/30585&SearchTer...nd,forgeries

Your two stamps are indeed Loewenberg decalcomanias, but Swedish Tiger only gave one description for these, even though Loewenberg had more than one patent for them. Your examples are quite fragile, because in addition to being on thin pelure (so-called "onionskin") paper, they were printed in reverse OVER the gum. That made the design highly fugitive, and is the reason we sometimes see them with a spot of design missing that is in the shape of a stamp hinge that was removed. Not sure, but I think that has happened to your example on the left. Maybe both have that problem.

BTW you have some nice fancy cancels in that group, the best being the full strike of an 8-point rosette. The bit of clipping on that stamp does not impact the design or cancel.
