The extra would have paid postage for 15 more envelopes! I should go find some precancel postage dues I have for the festival. Maybe tonite I can do some scanning and will remember.

Stamperdude is correct. The practice was to add up the postage due for all the business reply mail and then paste all the stamps on one piece.

Blocks of $1 stamps precanceled "Rochester, N.Y." were used on this 1933 postage due bill.

The bill was presented to the Kojene Products Corporation, makers of Kojene antiseptic.

Above is a picture I found of their product and some advertising for it.

Great post Tom. Modern miracle snake oil. I do like precancels with the double line, electro lines is the correct term (maybe).

Wow, first time I had seen a form letter for the postage due. For $11.00 that had to be a very large package as back in 1933 quite a sizable weight could be shipped for that amount. Thank you for sharing.

This 1898 soldier's letter has a multicolor Spanish-American War patriotic cachet with
caption "Remember the Maine. For Humanity, Country and Right." It was sent from
Washington, D.C. without postage and assessed 2c postage due in Rochester, N.Y.

The 3rd Regiment Infantry New York Volunteers never saw combat. They proceeded
home from Camp Alger, Virginia after a series of marches and mustered out completely
by December 10th, 1898.

Here is a 1924 cover sent from Stützerbach, Germany to the Industrial & Scientific
Instrument Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where it was assessed 14
cents postage due, and precanceled stamps affixed.

The German stamp was canceled with an interesting pictorial cancel showing a
piece of chemical glassware (a condenser).

I am really beginning to like precanceled postage dues. I received a letter the other day marked postage due but I guess they expect me to go to the post office to pay it and bring the envelope with me for proof since it was left in my mailbox at my home. LOL

He should have used a 4c Lincoln on that cover to Lincoln!
The Alpha Gamma Rho frat house is still there on Idylwild St. in Lincoln.

Does anyone know why Germany has no postage due stamps ?

That's an excellent question Bob. I've never thought about it. Maybe it's a cultural thing. Germans have long been known for Their precise efficiency. Maybe it would just never to occur to them to put insufficient postage on a letter.

Drudenfus, do you know the answer? I'd be really interested in finding out.

This 5c plate block of 6 must have paid for 15 business reply mail postcards (correct me if I am wrong, I think postcards cost 2c to mail in 1959).
