It appears that a disgruntled forum member is in the process of deleting his posts in various threads he took part.
He probably has his reasons and I suppose he believes he has every right to do so.
I find it very spiteful and childish and thought he was a better person than that.
This is just one reason why there should be a time limit of lets say 1 hour in which time one can edit. After that the posts are locked.

I was just noticing that too, Litho. A shame really, because he has a lot of good things to add to the forum. Guess someone *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. *** in his cornflakes. We could always ask him, but I don't think we'll get an answer. |

It's too bad, he is removing a lot of valuable information that I for one really appreciated. I agree there should be a time limit to edit posts; at some point I think the post needs to remain community property, particularly when the thread builds off material in the post. |

Does the post belong to him or the forum. Reminds me of the who owns the image thread. |

I have no idea who has the rights to what we post here.
But he is making a shambles of many threads which now no longer make any sense.
In this sense his actions are affecting me, you and everybody else who has ever posted on the threads he is deleting.
As I said in my first post and JR agrees there has to be a time limit for editing.
As of now anyone can go back years and change, add or delete posts. |

Couldn't this person just completely delete the post instead of editing it to say "deleted"? Seems he wants us (or somebody) to know he's having a fit...
I agree with what lithograving says below. In fact, I said it before he did. :D |

If this kind of thing catches on and members start deleting posts left right and centre then they might as well close up shop here.
Already in the past I've noticed some people going back weeks, months, even a year changing things in some of their posts.
Maybe they were made to look foolish by what they said and wanted to remove something.
Or they added something which completely contratics what they had posted before and now makes the other poster(s) look stupid and makes them look good.
What is written should stay written.

This mass deleting also really messes up the "View Last 100 Active Topics", which is the main way I browse this forum. |

Each to their own - if someone wants to delete their posts so be it - its not the first time and most likely wont be the last - a similar thing has happened in recent times when a member of this Forum chose to delete his posts on another Forum - Do we condemn his actions??????? NO - all I say is people in glass houses shouldnt undress - And we certainly shouldnt be "locking" any post from being edited no matter how long they have been their |

It is unfortunate that his posts are deleted.
I personally, have been on the blunt end of his remarks with sarcasm / arrogance in the past. After my problem with him, I just started ignoring his posts and never bothered to reply.
All I can ask is, is he his own worse enemy?
My opinion of course.

I agree, its messing up the forum active list and making many discussions incomprehensible.
I have participated in may forums over the past 15+ years. I believe this is the only one that doesn't have a time limit on when you can edit or delete posts. I was an administrator for a friends forum for a while and our policy was 7 days to edit/delete, after that you had to PM a mod or admin to make the edits. My 2¢

Some forums have an archive where such past posts can be viewed but I don't think that there is one on here. |

Like most public forums the author owns the content they post in their name. The forum has the right to do with the posts as they see fit (like use it in their advertising or even delete it if they want) but the original poster owns what they authored. don

I thought all the posts were new til I read them and of course they are not, it is just bumping the old threads when he deletes them.
Admins still have the ability [in most forums on the net] to view deleted posts, so I suppose if they wanted to, they can restore them if they chose to do so. |
