There's supposed to be a stamp club in our area. They are supposed to meet at a library in a nearby town every month except for summer. A few years ago, when I got back into collecting, I found some information on a website, contacted a couple of members who provided links to their email addresses, and never heard a thing. This past fall there was supposed to be a stamp show in town. Again, I found information about the club, wrote a couple of members who offered email addresses asking when and where the show would be held, and heard nothing. In neither case did the email bounce. They must be awfully satisfied with themselves with so little interest in attracting new members and growing. Of course, maybe they're already dead as a club and know it.

Larry, I tried for 6 months or more to get a club started here in Daytona Beach with not a single person call me.
Not sure which is worse. They have a club in Palm Bay & one in Deland. 35 miles & 25 miles respectively. now that gas is down I might try to to the one at Palm Bay.

Larry, I would keep trying to contact them. The members you contacted may be elderly, absent-minded or in ill health. Or they may not turn on their computer very often, or forgot how to get their email, or had a disk crash. Can you send a letter?

Talk to the library staff. They know when their building is booked after hours, and can likely tell you when the next meeting night is. Find out, and just show up.

Larry dont feel bad..i know of several in my club that probably would not bother to respond to an inquiry..their concern is for themselves and not for the club..if the club exists there has to be a couple of people who make it happen..keep trying and any luck you will find them and a decent bunch of members ....

Thanks Phil, they claim to have originated in 1920 and to be an APS club since 1925. But they can't all be that old! I've checked again and one has a phone number listed. As much as I hate using the phone will give her a call.

Given the state of the hobby as well as many other traditional leisure activities it is hard to understand such attitudes. I hope that you continue to pursue the effort and once inside work to turn the attitude or it truly will be the end. Our local club was languishing but we did manage to salvage it over a couple of years by gentle education and persuasion.
