I have a few vintage postcards with postmarked 1 and 2 cent stamps and was wondering if they had value.

Unless the cards are addressed to, or are from, very famous people, probably not much value, but, many of us collect postmarks.

Hello Ordinary Guy, welcome to Stamp Community!

I agree that cancels and postmarks and special postal markings add value to a postcard or any other piece of mail.

When I started collecting years ago I was just interested in the stamps alone and would do damage to letters and postcards just to get at the stamps. Now, after years of having fun with stamps I am finally noticing the other markings like cancels on them .

You or another can have an interest in certain eras of postmarks, certain areas or localities, certain historical names or dates, even birthdays or calendar making of postmark dates.

They may be ordinary to some but now I am realizing the importance of postal history, as it is called, and the collecting and study of postmarks or marcophilately.

It is reallu nice also to have a special reentry stamp or error or variety stamp on cover or postcard too.

Wouldn't the value depend on the stamps? (i.e., show some pictures.)

It would indeed of course. I assumed that for lack of any previous price mentioned the cancel would perhaps add value and interest to the stamp or cover.

Welcome Ordinary Guy!

I would agree with the earlier posts. It really is a package deal. The stamp might be rare (unlikely), the postcard itself may be scarce or unusual, the postmark may be interesting (small town, discontinued post office, earliest or last day of use) or a combination of all three factors that make the postcard very collectable.

It's really a case by case issue depending on what the buyer's interests are.

Dan

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.
