A low value stamp, for sure. I'm wondering about this small wedge of color in the very bottom, between the N and the T, plus a break at the top, just above the P.

I just purchased the Encyclopedia of Plate Varieties, by French, and am now pretending to be an expert, but can't seem to plate this simple item. Thanks in advance.

Looks like some other anomolies behind Washingtons head, under the chin, below "C" and "E" of cent, under the "O" of postage---could be some plate scratches or perhaps some foreign objects on the plate or paper during printing as well as the same possibilities for those you have described. If plate scratches, they should be consistent on other printings of this position on the plate? If foreign objects, they would not necessarily be consistent on other printings? Just guess work on my part. Good luck plating.
