Hi Everyone,
I have a question about a bank check I have.
In the bottom right corner, it reads in red ink:
(it's hard to read, so I hope I have this written correctly)

Subsistence fro the sick under G.O. #136.
A.G.O. Sub's. of the "Pre-Army" 1899.

Can anyone help, and what does all that mean?
Here are some photos. Thank you so much!

I suspect that G.O. 136 is General Order 136. A.G.O. might be the Adjutant General's Office. The check appears to be a payment for being sick, probably as a result of action during the Spanish-American War.
There is something written at the bottom right under the signature on the check which might help.
Checks from this era are very common, but I have not seen this particular marking before.
