It seems Battle of New Orleans 1815 stamp will have its First Day of Issue: Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Chalmette Battlefield just outside New Orleans, La. I will be doing volunteer work to help with the 3 day event.
Quote: WT - are you sure about the 2015 year date for the 10K Bobcat, or merely taking a guess?
It was originally an assumption on my part, but has just been confirmed today by Linn's Stamp News as excerpted below:
Quote: Another national stamp show will host a first-day ceremony one week later, on Feb. 21. The Aripex show in Mesa, Ariz., will present a 1˘ Bobcat self-adhesive coil in rolls of 10,000.
The Bobcat stamp has been issued twice before: as a 1˘ self-adhesive coil in rolls of 3,000 on June 1, 2012 (Scott 4672); and as a perforated 1˘ lick-and-stick coil in rolls of 10,000 on Aug. 9, 2013 (4802).
The Postal Service plans to have a 2015 year date inscription on the new stamp, USPS spokesman Mark Saunders told Linn's.
The Year of the Ram (Lunar New Year) Stamp will be issued on Saturday, February 7, 2015 in San Francisco, CA. We already knew the FDOI city, but the date has just been confirmed:
Here's an image of the pane of 20 (five different images) for the Martin Ramirez stamps to be issued March 31, 2015 in New York City:
For anyone who may have read up on Martin Ramirez, it seems he lived most of his adult life in California psychiatric hospitals, having been diagnosed as a catatonic schizophrenic:
For anyone interested, the 2015 Battle of New Orleans (War of 1812), Forever Hearts, along with the $1 and $2 denominated Patriotic Waves stamps, first day covers and press sheets are all available for pre-order from the USPS Store's website.
Here's a general idea - the USPS should start using large-sized commemorative designs on its high-value ($1 and up) stamps. The US has issued scores of dollar-value small definitives, but very few commemoratives at those rates. The high-value commems they have issued in the last ~30 years have tended to be reissues of older high-value stamps. This is not counting Priority and Express stamps, of course, I'm just talking about regular old $1, $2 and $5 stamps. Anyway, I often send mailings that take $1-$3 or so in postage and I always have to pick between plastering several first class commemoratives or fewer, smaller, definitives. As an example, the $1 stamp from the much-derided Circus souvenir sheet would be a great $1 stamp to use on mail if it were more widely available. I'm surprised the USPS doesn't do this already as one would think the "retention" rate on a colorful commmemorative would be higher than on a small, nondescript definitive.
I like the Summer Harvest Forever stamps coming out in June. As someone who starts plants from seed these stamps caught my eye.
I'm trying to use up my supply of 2012 "Four Flags" and 2013 "A Flag for All Seasons" ones so I can have some variety....I get tired of using the same designs over and over.
I'm looking forward to when the Summer Harvest ones go on sale.
A question for the PNC collectors. I know that PNC5 or PNC9 has become the preferred format for most modern US coils, but what format will you use for the upcoming Stars & Stripes coils? Since there are 3 designs, neither PNC5 nor PNC9 would seem to work well. I'm guessing PNC7 will be the logical choice. Any thoughts?
I'm not sure I can answer your question but the technical specs for the stamps are already posted in tomorrow's Postal Bulletin (01/22/2015) at this link:
Just to complicate things, it states that plate numbers will appear on every 27th stamp, which suggests to me the plate number will always wind up on the third stamp design in the trio, which makes PNC strip collecting a bit of a problem.
At least availability shouldn't be a problem with 60 million of the coil of 3000 stamps and 1 billion of the coil of 10,000 stamps being produced.
