It's a device, portable (batteries) or desktop (corded, with additional options) made in Germany. I guess you place a stamp under the viewing area and the way the light filters through the stamp makes watermark detection almost foolproof. The desktop one, which also has some clarity and focus knobs I've seen run as high as $300, whereas the portable one doesn't have the options but other reviews are still positive.

How well does this watermark gadget work? Do any of you guys remember Carbon tet, trichloroethane, energine, or lighter fluid for detecting watermarks
