Its the local stamp shows that see the most collectors. Perhaps not at any one show but over the course of a year several shows. The big national shows are the primary focus of the APS and I suggest that more time & resources be targeted to the local shows. I attend perhaps a dozen small shows a year and seldom see the APS represented at the show. If the APS is not going to attend, or even if is attending, why not contact the local radio station and put out a message about the show, time, place, number of dealers etc. The cost of a radio add is not that much but if it brings an additional few collectors, non collectors or even a couple of kids, wouldn't that be worth the cost? Radio targets a specific demographic. The demographics of the collector base attending a show may require more than one station in a large town or even in the sounding area. In other words, the APS can do a better job of getting the word out and this may be one of the ways to do so. JMO, but his may be a better way to spend six figures than getting a new CEO.
Another passing thought is that every chamber of commerce has a web site with a calendar of local events. Get the show listed. Of course, all this requires the show organizers to let the APS know far enough in advance to do the job. Instead of relying on show organizers to contact the APS, why not have the APS contact show organizers?
