I am getting a crash course on stamp collecting...Never was that interested in collecting stamps...I never knew anyone else who did. My husband told me that his Mom and Dad had a collection of them. When my mom in law passed away recently at the young age of 92 I was not prepared to say the least. Collections on steriods....yes collections with an S.
The big ones are....Stamps, first day covers, WWII military 'stuff' AND (my favorite) QVC JEWLERY(I am talking LOts of Jewlery). The last two are for another forum.
So Stamps and first day covers....I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment.
I cannot even tell you how many first day covers there are. They have been discovered in bags and boxes throughout the house in addition to at least 9 binders full of covers. I have been trying to put the loose ones in picture boxes to keep them together and them my husband located a foot locker almost full of first day covers. There is no order and they are totally random. I gave up for now.
I have started with the stamp collection. They were my father in laws. I just started with a large box of loose stamps from 1940 - 1960. I found a couple of stock books that my father in law numbered and I am filling them in. My plan is to try and follow what my father in law was doing. I am still trying to figure it out. He has a couple of stamp albums and he has a large box of sets of 4 stamps. He also has quite a few foreign stamps.
I did find a few gems which are stumping me and I will ask in the appropriate forum. I look forward to learning from everyone.
