Wonder what was in this package:

Just found this folded up in an album I picked up at a yard sale this morning. Not a lot of other interesting things in there but thought this was pretty cool

Nice piece. Gotta love the typewritten term "airplane mail".

Here's the history of the addressee, Experimenter Publishing Co. of New York, publisher of "Radio News":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experi...r_Publishing

I suspect this was probably the reason for the high postage value on the parcel:

Quote:
The largest expenses for a magazine publisher are paper and printing. The publisher has to print enough copies to supply every outlet. At the end of the month the distributor would return the unsold copies to the publisher for a credit. Experimenter Publishing had 4 or 5 monthly magazines so this was a considerable expense.

Yeah they're 11's

I think I'll keep it as is for now even though there's a block and vertical and horizontal pairs that would like nice in mounts. Might change my mind later since it's not a whole cover anyway.

Interesting read wt1 thanks - hadn't looked them up yet

I loved the Spielberg tv series in the 80s called Amazing Stories. Bet that was a spinnoff of the magazine

Definitely keep it as it is. The 518 off cover cats $1.50, while 518 ON cover cats $500!! Even on a piece they are worth substantially more than they would be off cover.
