I was going through covers looking for my Columbus stationary to post in another topic when this jumped out at me. A funny looking red faced Washington??

Well you got me there! I must admit that I have never seen anything like it before and I have literally sorted through thousands of those! Could be a red cork that bled or a real wet print? Neat though.

All I can say is wow. Never seen one like this and I have looked at quite a few W/F's

It almost looks like someone painted in just the face.

Super cool! And since the hairline and neckline are so neat, I agree that it's painted. But it's a great cover

Looks like some color in the oval to the left also. I don't have a viewer good enough to really know what was done. I'm thinking some colored pencil.

Someone dripped kool-aid on it. Seriously, the color is slightly different than the stamp ink, and as stampcrow observed, there is some color in the oval to the left also. The stain also goes into the hair a bit, but doesn't reach the bottom of the chin.

Nice, unusual example, whatever it is. Seems they gave him a soul patch. It also makes it look like old George is wearing neck rings.

I agree with classic coins. Someone dripped Kool-Aid ( or maybe oil? ) on it.
