Can you buy the kind of paper that USPS uses for SA stamps? I have tried the glassine envelope paper (which resembles wax paper) but they seem to stick to that. Is real wax paper the answer? Many of the stamps are issued perf-perf and cannot be trimmed in place without damaging the stamps. It would seem easier for me to peel the mint stamp off of the USPS booklet and place it on another section of similar paper which I can then trim to fit in a mount in my album.

While I do not collect self-adhesive stamps that have been removed from their backing paper, I do remove some stamps from their backing paper & store them for future use as postage ... on backing paper from mailing labels. Another obvious choice would be to save the backing paper from self-adhesives that you're using for postage.

Thanks for the idea on mailing address labels. I have lots of them around and had not thought of that.

I have not personally tried this for collecting purposes, but when I remove a self adhesive stamp from its backing and place it in another position on the same backing paper, the stamp is not very secure. It's good enough for keeping a stamp until you're ready to use it for postage, but I don't think it would be satisfactory enough to keep for long term storage as would be needed for a stamp collection.

I think you'd be better off to remove the stamps around the one you desire to keep for a collection and remount them on a backing paper for postage use; thereby keeping the self adhesive stamp you isolate for your collection in perfect condition.

I agree. That's how I do it.

Cheers, Robert

I did notice that when I removed the stamps from the USPS backing and placed them on the mailing address backing, the adhesion was not nearly as good as the original. I went ahead and placed them in my album. Hopefully, I won't regret it later.

lilmoose: Release paper is a silicone coated sheet and every manufacturer has their own formulation(s).

I do not know if it can be purchased at retail.

Yes, I do agree with Wt1. I collect Plate Number Coils, and they come ( some ) as self adhesive stamps. When I buy a roll I will strip it by taking out the stamps on each side of a PS7, 7 or 9 or whatever it is that I want to keep.
The stamps I take out can go ( temporarily ) on an old strip, but needs to be used fairly fast because it just won't hold very well.
I wished they printed these things like they do in Switzerland. If you buy stamps through the Postal Shop they come on backing paper that has the same die cuts as the stamp. The backing paper has a slit in it for easy removal of the stamp if you want to do that, but the stamp can go in a mount with backing paper and looks great!

Canada also makes theirs available with backing paper that has the same die cuts as the stamp (but only in their quarter year packs, maybe also in year packs?)
