HI I'm Brand New To Stamps And Stamp Collecting

Hello I am brand new and just inherited a stamp collection Where the heck do I start???

Walk though the collection. See what appeals to you and decide whether you'd either like to know more about that, or collect more of that. Chat with people who share the same interest. Trade with them.

dawner66 the advice CanadaStamp gave you is the best advice. You have to choose what you want to collect and the stamps you now have and the album. If indeed there is an album should help you to decide. Most people start at their home country and go from there. Prowl around the Forum and read some of the posts. Then take your time deciding. There is no wrong way to collect. The choice is yours.

I too inherited a collection. The first thing I did is grabbed one book and just started turning the pages. getting a grasp on how the stamps were arranged, and affixed to the page. I read some of the comments associated with each stamp. (works good if its a commercial album.)
Then I grabbed the next thing in the collection. ( for me I think it was a shoe box)

1st off is it a US or worldwide collection, album/pages or not No real reason for asking, but it may help in deciding what you want to do. Worldwide offers a larger selection of subject matter and color in stamps. if it just a us collection, it is mopre limited in "topical" selections, but it helps to get one used to focusing on say one country or one era of history. If the collection is on pages or in an album of any vintage..even home constructed or on stock pages, it can be more organized and thus easier to see where interests lie as opposed to a shoebox collection....save those shoeboxes though, they help in sorting things out. words of caution though, you may get hooked big time and go diving in head first and with eyes shut. Depends on what you wish to do with them all.

If you want to keep only some then get some good pics or scans and list on ebay or SCF here after appropriate time and dues have been paid here (see rules).

If you wish to keep them all, and sort through them to keep only the good ones, then I would decide roughly on what you want to focus on, money-wise or beauty or history or quality or jut plain fun-wise.

People change their choices after a few years also I find and delve off in a new direction that keeps the interest aline, so to speak. Just like any other hobby. New, used, cancels, town names, areas, colours, shapes, on of everything, only really good ones, buy cheap and sell dear, buy anyway and enjoy all to pieces, buy or receive as thankfully as you can and keep and appreciate as thankfully as you can.

Selling, buying, keeping, appreciating, it's all the same. Stamps are fun and so many different one and varieties and variations on the same stamps with all the different tings you can learn about on here and many other free web sites all around, paid and free, yay, too.

Ask and you shall receive sort of thing.

Any pics? Start a thread on a main forum and ask about them or just show off, it's all good.
