I am fairly new on these Franklins but I believe this is a Type 1V Scott 9,so from Plate I Late. I may be wrong because I can't seem to match the obvious characteristics to any particular position. Has anyone seen this one before?

The dark blue ink is from a circular date cancel that was applied twice one centering on the UL corner and one centering on the BL corner. Looks like Boston, MA.

Do you think that the O in POSTAGE and doubled left frame are from the Post mark? I don't.

I don't see the doubling of the left frame but if the letter O is constant then it should be easy enough to plate. My reference material is not handy at the moment, I can plate it when I get to my books again.

CoinWatcher, The doubling you show in your last image is not a double transfer. The double outer oval line is part of the original design. It appears on all stamps of this type.

Reference material for this stamp is a must. The book by Mortimer Neinken can be purchased for between $200 - $250 depending on the condition. The slingshot Venus site by Deporto is a great reference also.

I knew that. I would rather buy the book and hold it in my hands. I paid $125 for my copy and it has paid for itself many times over.

35L1L is the best match I came across for this stamp. Anyone else come up with this?

CoinWatcher, this stamp looks like it could use some soaking and pressing. You could also straighten out the folded-over crease at the bottom right.

Soaked and pressed as requested and here is the result. I believe you wanted the corner. Shows a dot not there before.

CoinWatcher, Thanks for the post-soaking images. I'm even more confident this is a 35L1L. Certainly a #9.
