JamesW is the one for this.. I think these arr re-prints from an altered and un-issued plate. still collectable.

gmsadusky, those are reprints of what are called the 'altered plates'. The story of these can be found on page 3 of the thread below.
The plates were rediscovered by August Dietz in the 1920s, and he printed the 24 John C. Calhoun you have in an emerald green (a picture of one is on the post which has the history of the plates). They were printed many times after by numerous sources (the Tatham Stamp Co. was one) in even more numerous colours. Not so much forgeries as reprints or reproductions.

No problem James! So to summarize they are indeed real stamps from real plates but never actually printed let alone issued by the Confederacy so they are just collectable reprints.
