As for postmarks, there's two different ones. There's partial duplex postmarks on the bottom halves of the stamps. On the top is small portion of a slogan from a machine cancel. I suspect it is "Air Mail Saves Time" which is pretty common. What I think is more interesting are the perforations of the stamps - Brinkerhoff Company vending & affixing machine perforations on Scott 371 (not sure of the knife cuts).
Yes it's a Brinkerhoff type IIa with the single knife cut. I realize the pair was used later, most likely on a Philatelic mailing. Even appears by the postmarking that other stamps were likely on the package with it.
It's not the usual Pine Lawn, Mo of Charles Mekeel or Benton Harbor, MI of Charles Filstrup. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the city and/or possible stamp dealer that may have sent it.
Thanks You Battlestamps, that's more than I could see.
After looking at many Sprngfield cancels, I'm leaning towards Springfield, Illinois. I saw lots of Springfield, Ill machine cancels with the Air Mail Saves Time slogan. Mostly they were in the 1927-28 time period and associated with Charles Lindbergh mail flights. On items where a single machine cancel wasn't enough to cancel all stamps they applied the Springfield handstamp as well, identical to what appears on the lower portion of my pair.
