I bought this stamp  while back but I just recently discovered what the cancel is! According to the Skinner & Eno United States cancellations 1845-1869 it's a PM-PD 15 New York, NY. "PAID ALL " cancellation.

The #65

You can download this reference from the USPCS website in their http://www.uspcs.org/resource-cente...nic-library/ section and I would highly recommend becoming a member also!

YES...cancel is VERY common.
Used in NYC for almost 10 years.

Yes I know it's common but I was always curious to it's identity so when I looked it up in Skinner & Eno's reference it was very satisfying. I have a few paid cancels on covewr mainly large and small grids but this one eluded me.

Kevin is such a stamp dealer.

A fun discovery, ILS.

Can I assume this is the same cancel then? I love 'these' stamps. ILS yours is nicely centered.
Obviously I can see all the faults of mine. Dinged perfs at top. Upside down cancel. Straight edge left side etc. But it stands out on the page it's mounted on.

Stampcrow - What incredibly wide side margins (even for a stamp on the edge of the sheet). I don't think your "PAID" is the same as the New York Paid All that ILS has. The serifs on the A in your stamp angle down, and the vertical line of the P is unusually thick. Many larger towns and cities used a "PAID" or "PAID ALL" stamp.

Your example is not listed in the Skinner and Eno book United States Cancellations 1845-1869.

Hmm, Thanks smauggie. Once again we learn what assume can mean lol. Wish I would have found this stamp before it was removed from its cover.

I guess what I would say, stampcrow is that this is likely a smaller town "PAID" and likely scarcer that one from a major city such as New York or Boston.
