Super neat! I bet it'll go over 500. Be fun to see finish though. |

Are you saying that it may be misidentified as 408E (1 cent) instead of 459 (2 cents)? Since 459 was the first rotary press coil, it most likely did not have any paste ups. |

Since it says 1 cent rolled lengthwise does this make it 408V (vertical)? |

I think it's a really cool item. If I owned it I would be at odds with what to do with it. |

Do you think that he could have gotten more for them by breaking it down and selling it as several strips? |

jogil,
Probably. But that would have been a shame. The breaking up of multiples for profit is a pet peeve of mine, especially in early classics. |

I would call it the breaking up of an insanely long coil strip in order to share smaller yet still insanely long coil strips with others. |

Kevin... I'll definitely notify ebay on Monday... I live in a somewhat remote area in the southern California desert, and my carrier (Sprint) doesn't service this area well... my office phone is a hard line to Verizon... anyone's most welcomed to call ebay over the weekend, though... Randall |

jogil... since the seller didn't show any of the stamps, there wouldn't be any way to tell if it was V or H...
Quoting Armstrong (1979 Edition)... the 459 production was for only 42 rolls (21000 stamps)rolled horizontally... of which 1500 were reported saved by collectors, leaving only 19500 stamps (out there, to to speak)... so, (I'd think) paste-ups would be highly unlikely... most especially since the 'customer' (The U.S. Automatic Vending Company of New York City) is stated as not taking the entire order (figures not given)... leaving some unknown quantity in the balance...
