stampcrow... I was watching this stamp for a nail-biting-week and was competing with another bidder... I'll admit I'm a risk taker, but only to the extent whereas the means justifies the extremes... the bottom line is... if you're serious enough about something you deem important enough for your collection, then there are pricepoints and risks involved... something which we learn and live on an ongoing basis in our business lives...

I don't sell stamps on ebay, nor have any plans to in the near future (just hard drives:hint)... albeit I've acquired many duplicates over the years as I've upgraded my collection (and will continue doing so) at any cost that I deem reasonable, irrespective of catalogues or expertizers...

Beauty (and quality) are in the eyes of the beholder... all at a relative cost...

Lastly, if you thought I paid $100 for the stamp, please read back up at the top... I paid $1.80 for it... if you're unaware what a 'snipe' is... it's a a high proxy bid placed by ebay on behalf of the buyer up to their maximum bid... (usually a high price the buyer wouldn't really want to pay in the real world), but accepts if necessary if he/she wants the item badly enough...

You shouldn't bid more than it's worth but it is interesting.

disi, I knew what you meant by your $100 snipe. And saw you won the auction for a buck eighty.

Perfect! I believe that defines "worth", not any catalog. Until the time comes you want to sell lol......

ILS... I totally agree with you when it comes to not bidding more than a stamp is worth... with *very few exceptions* I've purchased most of my collection wayyyyy below catalog prices...

This 220 is either a worthless anomaly at the minimum, and a rarity at the maximum... so, if the final bid landed, say, at $95, the dice were already rolled... so, who knows... (hypothetically-speaking- after a cert and maybe consigning it to Siegels's, for example) who's to say it wouldn't go for some unknown higher figure... (not that I'd sell it, of course)...

stampcrow... thank you for your re-comment... was just making sure... and I most assure you there was no intent of "showing off"... I'm just trying to have fun here, like everyone else... and injections of humor, irony, etc into the conversation make for good, fun communication, which we all appear to be having and enjoying exchanging brain-cell output... (smiling)
