I've just joined this forum and I live in New York City. To be honest, I don't plan on being on this very long because I'm mostly interested in selling the collection of my father that I
inherited about five years ago. In other words, I'm just looking for information to make selling the entire collection as easy, pain-free, and (to be honest) as profitable as possible. I'll most likely sell it to a dealer, which I know probably isn't the most financially-smart way of doing it since obviously dealers are in the business make money (which I understand!), but it'll be the easiest and least time-consuming way of doing it. If someone else has any other suggestions, let me know!
To give you an idea of the collection I have, my father mostly collected U.S. commemorative stamps. He had (I have) The American Commemorative Stamp, 1893-1959 (From the title page; it actually goes all the way to 1985.), published by Minkus (Admittedly I have no idea whether this is a "standard" stamp album or not), which is 90+% filled, almost all of which are unused. The earliest pages are the least filled, for obvious reasons, and there's chunk of pages from the 1930s without any stamps, again, for obvious reasons. After about 1936 the book is 100% filled (I think; I haven't looked at every single page, but my father was a bit of a fanatic about getting the commemorative stamps every year. He had a ritual of going to the post office to get the complete set at the end of the year and then getting the pages to mount the stamps from the local hobby shop near his office.).
I also have a few other stamp albums, some of which were from father and one of which was mine when I was a kid. In addition, I have the "official" U.S. Post Office commemorative books with the stamps, none of which were mounted into an album, from 1986 through about 2000.
