i was browsing worldwide collections on ebay and saw a 4 volume collection of Netherlands and colonies...for about $180..he had all the Christmas sheets of 10 that the dealers want 15 bucks apiece for..somebody spent a lot of money..i have known of people like that..they spend a ton of money on a collection..lose interest and a dealer picks them up for a fraction of what the collector spent..and that includes 4 stamp albums !!

So what is your rule - resist the temptation to buy more collections?

Or the opposite happens , some people are just opportunistic , once when I was at a local Stamp bourse a young collector was bragging about a World stamp album he had just got a deal (steal) for $60 from a dealer , the young man then turned around asked if I had countries of interest and then tried to sell me those (2) pages for $20 , there were a few hard to find stamps I didn't have but I resisted on the basis that I had 99% of the material and the person was being a complete oportunistic A$$ .

Rules are meant to be broken, bent, or ignored when it comes to collecting. Our want/need desires sometimes supercedes our common sense.

In defence of Phil... he is a true collector.

Like me, I'm more interested in buy and trading stamps; rather than selling them. I buy a packet, take what I need, and trade the rest.

The few dollars I spend are my hobby. Like the chap who spends $20 for a round of golf, I spend $20 on stamps and get hours of fun and relaxation out of it.

You are a true collector ! Your collections are extremely organized, albums color coded..pleasing to the eye..then you get a maniac like me who subconsciously wants to own a stamp warehouse !!

I always intend to by individual items or sets to fill holes in my albums, but like my good intentions when it comes to eating right, my stamp buying intentions are blown away by a pretty face (the right lot of U.S., Germany or Guat).
