I'll try to post some of my fancy cancels. I didn't have any luck the other day.

Wow lovely fancies and small Boston (and N.Y.) paid cancels and, of course that blue 5 of diamonds is incredible! Great looking stuff!

Very pretty cancels! I especially like the "paid" as opposed to the "free".

Great pair together. I wonder how it can be free if 1c was paid.

BeeSee - FYI, sometimes the postal clerk grabbed what was available to "cancel" the stamp, which may have been rate marking or other postal marking handstamps. A "free" marking doesn't necessarily have any meaning on postally used stamps. Sure makes for a neat cancel, though!

Uhmmm-uhm! Nice strikes. Full, many SOTN. I favor the BankNotes with shields, but they are all nice pieces. I noticed a large number of paid ovals. Are you doing a special study of those?

essayk,
I have a decent collection of the paids and rate markings on Scott 65's and the Banknotes. I try to find them on covers so I can identify town of origin. I also use "The Paid Markings On The 3c US Stamp Of 1861" by George linn. It's a bit dated but still some usefull information. Skinner and Eno is a good source of information.

Hi, you have really nice collection of fancy cancels. May be you can help me with one of mine. I have this stamp with note:
"TRG9 - rare" or "YRG9 - rare"

It is written by pencil and I can't find what does it mean. May be it is something with the cancel.

It is a NY Foreign Mail (NYFM) cancel "TRG9". You can see this cancel (and designation) listed on Bill Weiss website NYFM Free Tool;
Link is http://www.stampexpertizing.com
Click on 'Free Foreign Mail Cancellation Handbook' link and go to page 9 to see this cancel.

Wonderful cancels! I love Fancy Cancels. I have too many irons in the fire to collect them. I do, however, have some that came in "Lots".

I'll try them on ebay and if not successful, I'll just have another "Give away for SCF Support....down the road a bit yet!
