Ok so I bought two sheets today. To be honest I felt the stamps were rather dull and lacked an eye catching appeal. I loved the subject and was looking forward to this issue.

I guess I was hoping for an attractive boarder. The colors are dull and it is hard to pick up the images at a first look. I think they could have done a much better job with these four stamps.

BTW if you want a block of four different stamps you will be disappointed. They will only come as a strip of four.

I bought two panes today also. I thought they were nice looking - but I agree, not super.

I was surprised about the strip layout also.

I also was hoping for an attractive selvage border. Yes, block collector would be disappointed. I think they were trying for a format like the Ben Franklin 300th birthday stamps.

BTW, if you haven't already, take a gander at my 2009 Abraham Lincoln cover topic. I will be adding to it as more covers come in.

While the colors are rather somber, overall, I think the sheet is a very creditable effort from the designers. I was going to get a strip of 4, but when I saw the sheet, bought the entire sheet.

John, it's 20+ miles round trip for me to go to the PO so I just buy from the USPS Fulfilment Center (http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/sto...alogId=10152). It only costs a dollar to ship and I usually have my order within three working days. They have the Lincolns and a bunch of other current and past issues.

I heard tonight at my club meeting that our main post office may have ran out of Lincoln stamps and on the 12th had a line 15 people deep from 8 am to 4:30 pm all day with 2 clerks just doing handback cancels with the pictorial postmark. They had to turn people away to close the doors. Plus the 2,000 limited edition set of 5 covers produced by the Illinois Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission sold out, proceeds are to go to the restoration and exhibit upgrades for the Lincoln-Herndon Law Office in Springfield IL that's a few yards from the Old State Capital where the ceremony took place.

Maybe these will outsell Elvis?

Yes, works for me. Does anyone else foresee a reprinting coming up?

If there is a reprinting, want to bet that it would be exactly the same?

I'm glad to see a modern issue with an appropriate subject matter. I hope they sell a gazillion panes and have to reprint three times. I'm seeing quite a few being used on the mail I'm receiving and I'm using them myself.

I am not a U.S. collector...when was the last re printing of a commemorative stamp ? It makes perfect sense that the Lincoln stamp would sell exceptionally well in the land of Lincoln..but I notice even the lowly Red Hook post office had the Lincoln stamp on display on the counter !! I have asked for certain commemoratives at my post office and the answer is..we did not order any or we would have to order them !

It must be a regional thing because the local supply is going as slow as the other commemoratives.

It is always nice to see them used for postage. I think I may have used them on a few letters sent to forum members.
