Isn't that black thing a London taxi? Looking over the pubs side of the postcard, two pubs caught my attention. My home town is York, PA. In York County we have a town called Shrewsbury. Just to the east of York County is Lancaster County, where the town of Bird in Hand is located. I always wondered where the name came from. Must have been named by a loyal client of the pub. Bye the way: Southeast Pennsylvania is one of the very few places in all of the USA that uses the King's English pronunciation for the city of Lancaster.

There is a town called Shrewsbury in Shropshire,England. It is my favourite place in the UK having worked there for many years.
The Shrewsbury Arms on the picture postcard is a pub in Stafford on the way to Shrewsbury.

Bird in Hand is an unusual name for a town...how quaint.

I have also spent many happy weeks in York,Yorkshire,UK. A great stamp and Postcard fair takes place twice a year at the racecourse Grandstand.

The USA and UK have so much in common !

Londonbus1.....So what the hell are we doing in Guatemala and Israel?

I always wanted a ride on a London bus. They've got to be better than Guatemalan buses.

Since this is a post on sending postcards, I'll look for one with a Guatemalan bus to send to you. As for why I'm in Guatemala, ... it's a long story. If you've done aliyah, I might make an educated guess as to why you are in Israel.

When I was still in the Navy and traveling a lot I used to send tons of them from every port. My kids and family loved getting them.

I always send postcards back home anytime I travel, even if it's a short trip to a family reunion of something. Gives me a postmarked copy of a postcard from another city/state and plus it's a momemto of that event. I have postcards from 18 years ago when we took the kids to Disneyland when I graduated from college and others when we went up to visit grandparents who are no longer with us. Not especially valuble except to us but that's okay.

I always mean to mail postcards, but rarely do. I do collect PC's when I visit places as a memento. I also collect PC's with a route 66 or Abe Lincoln theme for my topical collections. I will be incorporating some into my upcoming Route 66 frame I'm working on.

Wow, that postcrossing.com website is awesome. Thanks for sharing that. I've been looking for a website that lists people who may be interested in being pen pals, but I like the idea of being surprised about where a postcard is coming from and from whom. Very cool.

You're welcome, Eric, it is a cool site for anyone that likes to send and receive postcards. I haven't done it in a while, but should do a few more.

question: I went to the post crossing site and hesitated to the point of not doing it when my address was requested. I know, you need to give your address if you want to receive mail. Is anyone here either comfortable or uncomfortable with providing an exact address?

If you are concerned about security you could get a PO box.

Hi ziggy9
I've belonged to postcrossing for close to 2 years. It's great. The only people who get your address are the ones that will send you cards. It's not published on the sight for just everyone to see.
I'm not assuming that you didn't know that already, but just on the chance shot that you did think that it's in a public list for everyone on the sight to see. It's NOT.
The group is really worth the effort. I've gotten over 100 cards so far from all over the world.

I hadn't even clicked the post crossing link before, but just checked it out. I'm very interested now. Thanks for the extra info doodles69ca! I am not a huge fan either of putting personal info like that out for people to see, but it's good to know that not just anyone would have access to it. I might have to try it out!
