I don't know if an update to my first post should be here or would be better in another thread, but I've had such pleasure from reading other people's posts that I wanted to make some contribution.
For 28 months since my original post I've been working on Big Red and other albums, and doing quite a bit more lurking round here. The albums are now looking much fatter.
Before

Now

Much of my effort has been directed towards the second album which was significantly emptier than the first album. Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Peru, Uruguay and the US have all had significant additions. Here's a page of Switzerland - still waiting to hinge in the last few stamps ...... I've never claimed to be organised or methodical

There's been a very interesting discussion on another thread about whether or not to collect worldwide or specialise. For Big Red, I think there are a number of countries where I may never put in any stamps unless odd ones come with a mixed parcel of stamps. Contrariwise, for more than a few countries I'm taking the collection up to or beyond 2000 rather than sticking rigidly to the timeframe of these albums.
One thing I can say is that buying these two has had nothing but a beneficial effect on my collecting. I get great pleasure out of choosing and hingeing the stamps for the countries and even greater pleasure when I actually complete a page. Unlike the Scott International albums, Gibbons never made any effort to keep out the expensive stamps so there are going to be a number of empty spaces even in those countries that I'm favouring
