R33A Guidance

Seeking guidance from those more expierenced revenue collectors. I do not own a R33a imperf. This is being offered to me from a club member. it has a tiny ink errosion pinhole which can be seen from the back. It appears to be a legit imperf in my opinion but do not know if the ink pinhole is very detrimental to the stamp. It is valued in the 2015 at $400. It is being offered for $65. Does the pinhole make this a bad buy in your experience with ink erosion pin holes. I have seen them before but never thought of buying that particular stamp with the pinhole. This is my first thought of it.

It appears genuine. The ink erosion hole does hurt it. The right margin was torn against a steel rule, which is why it appears a bit ragged. Paying 15% of cat is not terribly high if you really want it, but you might try a counter offer of $50.

IMHO, that is excellent practical advice, revcollector.

I concur in that the fault does not detract from the stamp's presentation in an album. The irregular margins are an aesthetic judgment.

It comes down to whether you think you'll be satisfied with it long term, or will you be wanting a sound or more appealing example at some point? I don't know what the rest of your collection looks like from a quality perspective.

The R33a is actually not that difficult to find in nice condition, although you'll pay more. Even so, I might hold out for one with a bit better presentation.

For the sake of comparison, here is one I purchased in March of 2013 from Kelleher auctions. It too has a hole, but in my opinion, the margins and centering make it a great visual example. Including buyer's premium and shipping, I paid $102... not that much more than the stamp in question being offered to you.

Once again TY. My collection is one I am putting together piece by piece slowly and I consider it a very nice collection. Your advice made me think that yes even at 50 I would eventually replace since it does not meet my normal collection standard.
