Fake Cinderella

Noticed an item on ebay for Lincoln Cinderella, the item listed is an obvious fake. Notified the seller, they wrote back "How can a Cinderella be a fake, it is not represented to be a specific stamp or item."

Good point semantically, however it is still not what it represents to be, not from 1864 and not the real thing.

Unfortunately the link does not take me to the object in question. However, sounds more like misrepresentation of a reproduction than a fake or a forgery of a cinderella.

someone bought them anyway, they removed the 1871 date from the listing. tech they are cinderellas, just bad reproductions of the real thing.

I saw this once before and wondered . How can a Cinderella be a fake? I'm still wondering. Unless an entity produced Cinderella's and someone copied them and tried to pass them off as original Cinderellas?

Indeed, these are, in my opinion, forgeries or fakes of the original "Cinderella" stamps. I think the description of things as "cinderellas" is sort of misleading because it implies that the item(s) are spurious or of unknown origin or purpose, which in many cases might be correct, but also in many cases it is incorrect and WHY the item exists *is* known.

I think usually a Cinderella is issued to promote or commemorate an event. Such as a Carnival or maybe a fair or even a Town, City or sporting event. I have some beautiful Cinderellas. Many are engraved and Stamp Quality. Some collectors, people, think of them as trash. They turn their noses up at them. That's too bad because they just don't know what they're missing. They say what is one mans junk is another man's treasure.

Interesting views but in the end it all depends on one's definition of Cinderellas.

I view these items as Cinderellas just as I would if they were the original 1864 copies. Both collectable and both would sit in different albums of my collection.
