You are looking at a series of Essays with various revaluation surcharges (in essence, samples that were never issued in that form). That's what makes them scarce and valuable to specialized collectors in this field. For those who haven't seen them, here's the link: http://stampauctionnetwork.com/ha/ha300631.cfm |

wt1 so, you are saying that the ones without cancels are cheap maybe 1 to 2 bucks . I know you didn't put a price on them but I have checked prices, but the ones with a cancel are worth hundreds? I have about 50 of the ones without cancels I think maybe I need to check closer for some cancels. Thanks this is why I am here. To learn |

Sorry Newbie Stamper, but you're not getting it. The items being discussed here, and in the link wt1 has given, are not normal postal stationery. They are not yet in their final form, but are at various stages in the development of the design of the envelope. Stamps like this are called "essays" and their designs differ from the finally approved design in some respect. Cancels have nothing to do with it, since these were not yet intended to be used as postage. It is not likely that you have any examples of these in your collection, but Harmer is offering a bunch of them for sale at auction this weekend.

No! You have to understand that the auction items shown are "Essays" (samples that were NEVER ISSUED) and should not have been placed into circulation, so they are not the standard stamped envelopes that would be found in most collections.
If you're referring to just the standard 6c airplane envelope, it is a Scott UC18 and those covers are valued at only 60 cents to $1 mint and only 30 cents used, as they were quite common and are readily available on the secondary market. |

Also, when looking at auctions, NEVER confuse the asking price, starting bid, or estimated value with the value of the item. Always check the price for which the item sold. This is especially important at places like ebay where totally clueless people offer common items at outrageous starting prices. |
