I discovered this great community a few weeks ago and felt it was time I joined in on the conversation. I've been collecting for a number of years but by no means am I anywhere near the level of knowledge that of a lot of you here. That, for one, is why I signed up.
I am an artist, working in the packaging and brand strategy world. Because of my artistic and print background, I have always appreciated not just the postal side of stamps but the art and print process.
When I'm not in front of the computer drawing, I am a motorcycle instructor for the Canadian Safety Council, and as you can imagine, my summer free time is limited and challenging to say the least. Living where I do, means the bikes get put away in winter, and like a light switch, the garage door closes and the stamp albums open. I will spend a fair bit of time this winter nose deep in my albums I'm sure.
As for what I collect, I have 5 Lighthouse Hingless albums. The first two volumes of US., the first volume for Canada, and the first two volumes for Monaco. My Monaco collection is quite strong, only missing a dozen or so high value stamps in these albums coving 100 years. 90+% are mint.
My Canadian collection is very weak and hope to improve that over the winter.
My US albums from the early 1920s to 1980 is full, and all mint. I'm here because my knowledge and understanding of everything pre -1920 is lacking and I don't have much in the albums pre 1920.
I also have 3 Global supreme albums that cover up to 1960 for my used collection. I enjoy these almost as much.
Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to contributing and most of all absorbing the knowledge here.
Welcome to our group! Looking forward to your participation. I have found using the site's search engine a big help when I want I have a question . Happy Halloween!
