I bought this pair as Scott 532 (Type IV), but I find what I think are inconsistencies: toga rope is not broken, toga button doesn't seem to have the Type IV pattern, nose shading seems to match Type Va (although the nose shading pattern isn't mentioned in the Type IV description). The design measures 18.9mm wide x 21.5mm high. Can anyone confirm an ID on this pair? Any help is appreciated. The seller will gladly take the pair back and refund my money, but I want to keep the pair if it is truly a 532.

Looks like its a Type Va, #534. Third row of shading dots on the nose missing two dots, has 4 instead of 6 dots. Only Type Va has this characteristic |

Positively 534... no ifs ands or buts... a very nice pair by the way... worth keeping...
But if you feel you paid too much, then by all means return the pair...

Thanks for both responses. I thought it was a 534, but I did not know for sure if the nose-dot pattern was exclusive to type Va since the Scott catalog didn't give that info. Is there more informative/complete reference material for determining Washington-Franklin types than the Scott catalog?
Incidentally, the seller emailed me that he took a second look at his online picture and agrees that it is a 534. He apologized and wants me to mail back the item for a refund.
My other copy of a 534 pair is VF NH and has slightly better "definition" (for example, the toga button lines are more distinct), but it is not a guide-line pair. The copy shown on this thread is hinged to heavy-hinged. Either one fills my album space, so considering value only, does the NH copy trump the guide line copy or vice versa? (Scott doesn't give a price for the guide-line pair for comparison). |

Kevin... never heard of (that) one, but since you recommended it, I just offered the seller $20 including shipping...
Let's see what they come back with... |

Thanks Randall-just too used to .com I guess. I knew it was .net but just typed .com anyway--old age maybe? |

Dave... funny you should put it quite that way...
We had a discussion here at the office on that very subject two years ago... and decided to clone our .com website onto a .net domain... it's worked out quite well...

Thanks for the references for Wash-Franklin ID sources. Does anyone have an opinion about the value of the NH pair vs the guide line HH pair for Scott 534? |
