Hello. This variety is very confusing for me. Is this a type III? Thanks for your help!

Start with the design. The scans are of the common Scott 634 Fourth Bureau rotary press stamp. A type II exists with three heavy hair lines close to the top of George Washington's head. The best web site for checking designs and types is www.1847use.com

Again, check the design. While many shades exist, the only listed shades of interest, other than the normal carmine, is carmine lake. A couple of lake examples also have been reported.

The www.1847usa.com web site shows stamp designs and will allow anyone with some patience to drill down to the types. Another website www.theswedishtiger.com has additional information on shades, to the extent that displaying shades on a monitor works.

maverick, you do recognize that this 2c is not one of the Washington-Franklins, right? I know some sellers mistakenly lump them, but this two cent is part of the Fourth Bureau series of 1922 and later, while the Washington-Franklins are the Third Bureau Issues of 1908-1922. If you can keep them separate in your thinking, you won't go looking for types and shades from the one in the other.

So I was bored out of my skull this morning so I scanned my (used) copies of the Scott #634 Type I. Rotary & Scott #634A Type II. Rotary Hairlines (strengthened & normal) and the left acanthus' of both.

Have you checked the perforations to make sure these are 11 X 10˝ ?
if not you could have a few of the following: Scott #554's,#579's (but that's highly unlikely), #583's (if perf 10's), #595 ("coil waste" but that is certainly not an issue here) and they cannot be #599's (unless they are Horizontal coils perfs only on the R&L sides.) or Scott #606 (which is a vertical coil having perfs on only the top & bottom) So, they can really only be either a #634 or #634A's

Type I. & Type II. Rotary printings together for comparison.
Notice the strengthening of the hairlines in the Type II.'s.

Close-ups of:

Scott #634 Type I.~

Left acanthus of Type I.~ (I must apologize for the "killer" being in the way of the acanthus marking)

Scott #634A Type II.~ {The Type II. is only found on the #599A & #634A}

Left acanthus of Type II.~ (I must apologize for the "killer" being in the way of the acanthus marking)

You can sort of make out the gap there if you know what you are looking for.
