Can someone tell me what countries during WWII were occupied by the Germans and produced postage stamps? I would like to find more countries to put into my collection.

German-Occupied Countries
Every country in Europe except Britain, Ireland, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Finland, Turkey in Europe and Bulgaria was occupied by Nazi Germany.

Italy was part of the Axis, but when Italy became an unwilling ally it was occupied. Finland, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria were Axis allies. Of these countries, Hungary and parts of Romania were occupied.

The Germans also occupied all of North Africa west of Egypt.

Here is a list:

Albania

Austria

Belgium

Byelorussia (part of the USSR)

Channel Islands (part of Britain)

The Crimea (part of the USSR)

Czechoslovakia (absorbed half, the other half forming the country of Slovakia)

Denmark

Estonia

France

Greece

Latvia

Lithuania

Luxembourg

Netherlands (Holland)

Norway

Poland

Russia (partially)

The Sudentenland

Parts of the Transcaucus region (part of the USSR)

Ukraine (part of the USSR)

Yugoslavia
In addition, a large part of Italy after the country changed sides in 1943, and Hungary in 1944-45

An interesting idea.

Off the top of my head (and in no way complete, probably):

Jersey, France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Czechoslovakia/Bohemia-Moravia, Yugoslavia, Greece, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia.

In addition, there were several countries that were pro-German, and who had their own dictators:

Finland, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy.

Anyone have more to add?

Norway had their Quisling: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vidkun_Quisling
And don't forget Japan!

And Liechtenstein. And Iceland, which was occupied by Britain and the US.

EDIT:
The city "Kotor" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kotor
was occupied and had own stamps.

"Courland" and "Laibach" had own stamps issued, as well es the region of "Macedonia".

And there was "Azad Hind", "Free India" ("National India"). I don't know much about that, though.

In 1943 for Provisional Government of Azad Hind (Free India); 'Azad Hind' stamps were printed at Reichsdruckerei (Govt. Printing Plant), Berlin. But these stamps were never postally used. However on 23 Jan 1964, they were used by Calcutta G.P.O. on FDCs of two Indian commemorative stamps.
Some Azad Hind stamps in my collection.

Azad Hind was a movement of Indian nationalists that allied themselves with the Nazis in order to free India from British rule. There were actually a few Azad Hind battalions that fought with the Nazis.

There were a total of sixteen stamps issued, both perforated and imperforated -- these eight designs are somewhat common, and apparently were given away by stamp companies back in the '50s in both formats:

and this one, which is the most rare:

was Finland really pro-Germany, or was it rather that Finland and Germany shared a common enemy (the Soviet Union)?
The answer is probably on wikipedia :)
