Hello From Sw Florida

I must apologize for not introducing my self sooner, I found this Forum and started reading the many excellent posts and missed this topic altogether, but better late than never.

I collected stamps when I was young and then found my way back to it in the 70s when I had a good job and some discretionary income. I bought locally and at public auction, I built some nice collections, sold some collections and started new ones. Then ebay came along. To me it was the greatest thing to ever happen to stamp collecting especially for someone that has always lived in a rural location. I began a 19th C. WW collection on Steiner pages with the goal of building it for free. I'd buy collections on ebay, break them down, resell them and keep a few stamps for myself. I did this until I had 4000+ stamps which isn't too shabby for 19th C. At this point my wife & I retired and we decided we needed to supplement our retirement.

Since I already knew how to buy and sell stamps on ebay we decided to make this our part time retirement business. I quickly found out that I couldn't collect stamps and run a business, all the best stamps were going into the collection so I quit cold turkey. That was about 8 years ago and we are still running our little business. I buy material and build the auctions and my wife packs and keeps the books.(takes the money)

I actually love selling on ebay, we have a very congenial business, we've made many friends, done some traveling and paid the mortgage and watching the bids come in each week is better than a video game!

Let me be the first to formally welcome you Ken! It seems odd, since you've been here for awhile! many of us have navigated here from the "other SCF" and find this place more hospitable. I hope you are enjoying the Florida weather as it is a bit rough up here right now!

Thank you both. I think this is the best time of year in Florida, the rains stop on October 1st. Every day is 80 and every night 60, the snow-birds don't arrive until January so the roads and restaurants aren't crowded, it's great!

I haven't done much searching but I've been amazed at the content as the different threads rise to the surface. I'm looking forward to doing some exploring.
