The small date is about 1mm wide & 0.5mm tall. The large date is about 1.25mm wide & a bit more than 0.5mm tall. The small date appears only on booklet stamps whereas the large date appears on both booklets & sheets. While the differences sound small, they are immediately obvious when you have both varieties in hand.
