I found an old stamp book when I moved into my new house back in a closet in june. I used to collect stamps when I was younger and know a little about them but not much, anyways all the stamps seem to be prety old older then any I had when I was a kid. I took the book to a local coins place and the guys kept eyeing up this on stamp he told me that he would give me fifty dollars for it. he would not stop talking about it so I thought that mabe I should hold onto it. anyways its a benjamin franklin stamp form I think he said the 1800's I dont have it right infrount of me but I think its a 1 cent it could be a five but I think its 1, it is blue lightish blue looks faded his face is in a circle and that about all I can remeber. it is in my dads safe. dose anyone know what something like this might be worth? I know its not to spacicif.. oh I forgot there was also a five dollar and one dollar stamp he wanted as well I can not remeber what they look like thought.. are they of any value as well?

Hi. Can't tell from that. Either check them out in a Scott Catalog (check your library) or post some scans.

If the high value stamps are rectangular and from the 1890's they could be from the Columbus Voyage anniversary stamps, the very first commemorative stamp set of 1893. But that is just a guess.

Welcome and hope this has rekindled your interest in collecting again.

I'm not even going to try to guess on this one. There are about a dozen or more Blue Franklins inside a circle. The price ranges form a few dollars to a lot more. Unless it was imperforated it would be hard to tell what it was just by looking at it.

The best you can do is post a photo so that we may help.

Well it could be worth a few hundred dollars or less than 50 dollars. There is at least 6 stamps with this design it all depends if it has a grill or not.

A grill would be like a series of ridge pressed into the stamps. If there is no grill then it is worth less than $50.

Again it is hard to say. You might have a E grill (86) that can range from $100 to over $500. I have seen these also go for less than $50 with faults. An F grill (92) could range from $40 to $250 and faults can go pretty cheap.

My point is that it may be one of those stamps, it could be a long lost Z grill (85A). Without seeing the actual stamp it is hard to give any real suggestions.

The price range really depends on several factors including but not limited to centering, freshness of color, faults such as thins or pulled perfs, type or degree of cancellation among others.

In any event if it is a grill then it should be worth more than the Scott 63 which would bring around $50 or less dollars in great shape.

So without a photo of the front and back I can't be any more detailed than above.

Good Luck.
