Since I have yet to receive a $1 Waves of Color (Scott 4717) used on a mailpiece, I decided to buy a plate block from SFS before they are replaced by the upcoming $1 Patriotic Waves Stamp in 2015.

This is a scan of the plate block I received. Is it normal that the numeral "1" has a washed out appearance or is this example a "freak"?

The "washed out" appearance is normal. If you look at the numeral under high magnification, you'll see that the interior of the number is made up of straight lines that slant slightly upward.

Thanks. I tried to look up some ebay scanned examples and they ran the range from what looked like full solid numerals to washed out looking ones.

Nonetheless, I'm glad to have a few examples at face value before the USPS replaces them with the Patriotic Waves stamp in 2015.

wt1 I have this "waves of color" $5.00 denomination on parcel front (It was to a friend staying with me when I first had my cancer surgery) if you would like it? The blacked out address I done using software so the addresses are still there. Let me know and it's yours.

Cropped out image of full cover front:

I don't think the washed out look of "1" on the $1 wave stamp is normal; most of my samples of this stamp have a solid "1", with only a few having a somewhat washed out look. In contrast, the "5" and "10" on all the $5 and $10 wave stamps that I have look washed out. Note also that the "5" and "10" contain patterns that are different from those of "1" (and "2" for that matter).

My $1 looks like wt's, the $2 is a little washed in spots and the $5 and $10 are pretty dull but even

WT1 just wanted to see if you saw my offer or not? I see that you're online. It's a philatelic usage either it was a small parcel USPS box. My friend had meds shipped up here to him because he forgot them at home, But I thought the hand cancellations were nice though. I don't collect any modern stuff at all and figured if you wanted it you can have it otherwise I'll keep it in my duplicates and on piece stuffs binder. Respectfully Jeff

Sure, I'll take it!

I don't have any of the postally used Waves of Color stamps. I get very, very little mail bearing postage anymore and most packages all come to me with either pre-printed labels or meters.

Thanks for your offer.

That was supposed to read: It's NOTa philatelic usage...

but that is all said and done with now I suppose? I just seen this post pop-up again and noticed that glaring error on my part and felt the need to clarify & correct it. -me.
