I can make out what looks to be "Ship at" and then the big gap.

Any clues ? I was thinking a Ship at sea cancel but why the big space after at ?

I think it's probably "Receiving Ship at" - probably soaked from a philatelic naval cover of the 1930s.

I like paperhistory's logic. I can make out the letter "G" in the top left corner and what looks like an "M" on the bottom left hand corner. I can tell you this though, I jave never seen one so I would be curious as you to understand what it was too! -Jeff

I agree with the thinking PHC, I just haven't been able to locatee aanother and wondered why the big gap after ship.
