I have recently added pages for years 2002 - 2011 to my album. This has become a headache due to not finding a good source that tells the difference between the different types. My latest head ache is with the 2006 Crops of the Americas. How do you tell a booklet stamp from a vending stamp? I've looked at the USPS site and frankly it made me go cross eyed! Any help appreciated!

there are 2 different booklet stamps in the crops of America. The 2 booklets are: scott 4008-12 booklet stamps (convertible book) perf 10 3/4 x 10.50 on 2 or 3 sides; 4013-17 (vending) perf 10 3/4 x 11 1/4 on 2 or 3 sides

All of the perf sizes for the Crops of America (11.25, 10.75, 10.50, 10.25) should be handled by the old-style perf gauges. But if you're referring to some of the measurements on other modern US stamps (11.1, 11.3, 11.4, etc.), then you probably do want a newer gauge. I use the relatively inexpensive Scott Multi-Gauge. It is a see-thru piece of thin flexible plastic. A more expensive gauge is the Precison U.S. Specialty Multi-Gauge (also see-thru plastic) produced by Sonic Imagery Labs. It provides several extra uses above & beyond normal perf measurement.
Also, be forewarned ... when there can be no confusion about the perf measurement of an issue, Scott will occasionally round off the gauge value. E.g., some US stamps that actually measure 11.25x10.75 are reported in Scott as 11.25x11.
