Is it possible that there can be a diagonal grill on a stamp? I thought the sheets were ran through a machine to put grills on them!

It is *extremely* unlikely. About the only possible way that I can imagine is if the sheet being grilled somehow got twisted up and then that part gets grilled. But I have never seen one (genuine) that is diagonal. You might check Brookman as if anyone would have talked about it or illustrated one, it would have been him. Do you own a set of Brookman?

And by the way, the Brookman books can be downloaded for free at the USPCS website here;

Was asking because I saw 2 different stamps #84 and #85 that had diagonal grills, both were for sale by the same seller in romania. The grills were clean and vivid but were diagonal. Thanks for the electronic library info. I will definitely be using it.

Funny, but a client recently sent me a link to an ebay auction - in France I think - where a seller had a 15c Banknote with a stongly-impressed diagonal grill! It was sooo fake that it was almost laughable!

Considering the value of these two stamps (with correct grills), I would think that it is quite likely that the diagonal grills are fakes - or as Bill stated (re: the possibility) "It is *extremely* unlikely". If Bill Weiss said it, take it to the bank ...
