The U.S. Scott 544 stamp was a rotary press sheet waste stamp that was perforated by two flat plate perforators 11 (Kiusalas 11-72) by 11 (Kiusalas 11-72).

Ordinarily, such rotary press sheet stamps were perforated by a bar and wheel perforator 10 (Kiusalas 10-80) by 11 (Kiusalas 11-73 actually 11-72.5) for U.S. Scott 542 and 10 (Kiusalas 10-80) by (Kiusalas 10-80) for Scott 543.

With regards to Scott 543, the horizontal bars perforated 10 gauge should be slightly different than the vertical wheels perforated 10 gauge, but even the Kiusalas gauge does not make a distinction between them as both 10-80.

Thanks jogil. It appears the stamp in question is 10x10. False alarm. Nothing to see here.

However, as soon as I figured out how to use the perf gauge, I quickly determined one of my other stamps is the $105 version, instead of the $19.
