There are two types of gums, used on the stamps of the Americana series..Eh ?

Can you tell the two types, on used stamps, that have soaked ???????

or do you need to collect them mint

Bob:

There are two types of gum on Americana Series stamps.... shiney and dull. There are varients of each, but I shall not go into that.

There is no way to tell what type of gum was used on the stamp, once it is used. The exception is a stamp like the 12¢ Torch of Liberty. It was only issued with dull gum.

That all being said, the way I collect the Americana stamps (like the 9¢ Capitol Dome) is a used stamp, a mint--shiney gum, and a mint--dull gum.
