What do you think? Perfs measure 11 all around. Back has some paper on from envelope. Thanks!

The perfs dont determine a 595, although it must be perf 11. The determining factor is the size of the design.

Thanks Ro! I understand. Many types. I do have a new digital, fractional caliper and will measure. Also, I've measured perfs with a good multi guage. Definitely perf 11.

Scott 554, flat plate -- shows none of the signs of rotary press, so no need to measure design dimensions.

Thanks. I will measure with caliper after work. No signs? As in? It does not look to have any bleed through of ink on the back from what areas are able to be seen from the extra paper from envelope.

Design isn't "fat" enough (just eyeing it up -- that comes with experience,) the shade isn't right for any of the rotary press issues, and it doesn't show the characteristic plate wiping. That's good enough for a "3 strikes and you're out" IMO... You can measure the width if you want, but I'm very confident that you'll find it to be consistent with flat plate dimensions.

I have to agree that the stamp looks flat-plate printed.

Here is a 595

from the Swedish Tiger website.
http://www.theswedishtiger.com/x1923a.htm

Question for you srailkb - What do you mean when you refer to "characteristic plate wiping?

Thanks!

smauggie, srailkb's mention of "characteristic plate wiping" refers to how rotary prints typically have light coloration across the entire stamp. In the rotary process the plates weren't always wiped very well. This left small amounts of ink across the whole surface of where no design should be printed. In your 595 example image you can see how the "white" areas actually are slightly toned. This is what srailkb is talking about.

I thought as much, Ryan when I saw the 595 from the Swedish Tiger website, but it is nice to have that clarified.
