State Ducks, First Year Of Issue

I enjoy duck stamps and look for ones with discreet signatures.

I found that they make state duck stamps and decided a fun way to collect them would be to collect first year of issue.

Is anyone else doing this and are there any states that are harder to find than others?

I collect US Federal & State of Louisiana Ducks. LA ducks( LA Waterfowl Conservation Stamp) are issued by LA Dept of Wildlife & Fisheries beginning with LA1 issued June 1989 for season of July 1st 1989- June 30th 1990. A $5 resident and a $7.50 non-resident were issued, same design. They have issued one each year since and are amongst the most beautiful "state ducks". Current rate for resident is $5.50, non-resident $25.00.

I know that Massachusetts has now gone to electronic ducks but still makes paper ducks to soak collectors, is that the way it is there as well?

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is making federal duck stamps available through their online portal beginning last Aug
1st 2014. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently selected Louisiana, along with Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina and Virginia, to provide the federal E-stamp option to hunters. Hunters who opt for the online purchase won't necessarily need to have the stamp on hand to be legal. Immediately after the purchase, the hunter will receive a confirmation code that's good for 45 days. Sometime during that time period, the hunter will receive in the mail an official federal duck stamp. Same is happening to the LA Duck stamp- in all cases a real stamp will be issued thru the mail.

In Ohio I don't believe any are very expensive, I do know most area sellers don't carry the state stamps and I usually have to go to ebay. There are also the Junior Duck stamps for collectors also. The Federal and Junior are available through the USPS web site for recent stamps. I am currently 10 stamps away (all newer) from completing my Federal duck stamps, one thing I like I have stamps from my father and I when I went hunting with him many years ago, he has long passed but it brings back great memories.
