Oops! I just now caught it that in my big post I misspelled the last name of the man who did the seminal philatelic work on the US grills. His name was William L. Stevenson not "Stephenson"
Thanks essayk and Bill. I appreciate your comments and opinions. It has been several years when I learned the grill is fake so I did not post it hoping to hear otherwise, At most I was wondering if there is a grill counterfeiter in Europe (or elsewhere) that might possibly be identified or suggested.
Your comment essayk, about leaving no doubt since it is a 24c, is welcomed. But I am not holding my breath, particularly since Bill kinda put a kibosh on the matter. I would be happy to send a better scan but my current one is dead and I am out of money for another one. By the time I can get a scanner for my needs, I'm afraid this post will be past history.
No problem, quigngt. I was of the understanding that you already knew the grill was fake, or had been told so, but that you wanted a bit more understanding as to how that was determined. That was actually the point of this thread. So when you eventually get a replacement scanner and can give us a better look that the grill on this stamp, please resurrect the thread so we can finish the job of detailing its features and comparing it to the four states of the National grills.
That it is fake has never been in doubt, I am sure.
Will do, essayk. I'll resurrect the post when I obtain a new scanner. I would like as much information as possible about fake grills, particularly when I own one. BTW, "resurrect" is a particularly useful term for the Easter season we just experienced.
